More than two decades ago, Dr. John C. Morgan, one of the first cardiologists in Southern Alberta, invited Dr. Donald Meldrum to join him in his burgeoning practice. Over the ensuing years, Drs. Morgan and Meldrum endeavoured to recruit like-minded, talented cardiologists. Now sixteen in number, the associated physicians are collectively known as Cardiology Consultants of Calgary, the largest private group practice of cardiology in Canada.

The members of Cardiology Consultants  represent all major areas of clinical cardiology, including treadmill stress testing, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, interventional cardiology, congenital heart disease in the adult, hypertension, lipids and cardiac rehabilitation. The Cardiac Wellness Institute  is the group's most recent venture, made possible by the multi-faceted expertise of its members.

Dr. Aggarwal was born in Arusha, Tanzania in Africa.  He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School.  He completed his internship in Kingston then returned to Toronto for residency training in Internal Medicine.  Dr. Aggarwal practiced as a General Internist for one year, then began his Cardiology training in Calgary.  He completed his fellowship in Echocardiography at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.  He joined Cardiology Consultants in 1998 and is presently an attending cardiologist at the Rockyview General and the Foothills Hospitals.

Timothy S. Boyne, M.D., FRCPC  

Dr. Boyne was born in Montreal, Quebec. He completed his undergraduate Physiology degree at McGill University. He completed his Masters of Neuroscience and Medical degrees from McMaster University in Hamilton where he followed up with training in the Internal Medicine and Cardiology disciplines. He went on to complete his Nuclear Cardiology fellowship at the University of Virginia. He had previously practiced in Hamilton where he was also an Associate Professor at McMaster University. He joined Cardiology Consultants in 2001.

Dr. Cohen, a native of Kingston, Ontario, graduated from medical school at Queens University in Kingston where he completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.  This was followed by a fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.  He has been in practice in Calgary, Alberta since 1979 and is an attending cardiologist at the Rockyview General and the Foothills Hospitals.  He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Giannoccaro is originally from Toronto, Ontario.  He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto, where he also completed his Internal Medicine residency.  His cardiology residency was completed at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Ottawa, Ontario, where a fellowship year in Echocardiography was also performed.  Dr. Giannoccaro joined Cardiology Consultants in 1991 and is an attending cardiologist at the Foothills Hospital and the Peter Lougheed Centre.  At the Peter Lougheed Centre he serves as the Medical Site Coordinator for the Division of Cardiology and runs the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic.

Dr. Hansen was born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan and graduated from University of Calgary Medical School.  After completing Internal Medicine residency training in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Edmonton, Alberta he returned to Calgary to train in Cardiology Medicine.  This training was followed by a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology.   He is an attending staff cardiologist at the Foothills Hospital and the Peter Lougheed Centre.  He has been a member of Cardiology Consultants since 1985.

Originally from Hong Kong, Dr. Ma graduated from medical school at Trinity College, University of Dublin.  He received his Internal Medicine residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and completed Cardiology training at Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas.   Dr. Ma underwent further training in Cholesterol Metabolism with Nobel Prize winners Drs Goldstein and Brown in Dallas.  Dr. Ma has been a member of Cardiology Consultants since 1988.  He is an attending staff cardiologist at the Rockyview General and the Foothills Hospitals. He is also director
of the Heart Health Institute, which includes outpatient clinics for assessment and management of Lipid Disorders and Hypertension as well as clinical research in Cardiology.

Dr. Meldrum was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan and graduated from medical school at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, being awarded a Fellowship in both specialties. He then practiced in Montreal for five years before moving to Calgary in 1976. He was the founder of the original Cardiac Rehabilitation Program for Southern Alberta at the Calgary General Hospital (CGH) in 1981 and recently retired as the Program Director of the Cardiac Wellness Program at the Talisman Centre. He and Dr. John C. Morgan were co-founders of Cardiology Consultants of Calgary. He is a past Chief of Cardiology at CGH and is currently an attending staff cardiologist at Foothills Medical Centre and Rockyview General Hospital. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Calgary. Dr. Meldrum has a special interest and expertise in clinical cardiology, coronary angiography and cardiac rehabilitation. His new found interest is in non-invasive CT coronary angiography, currently being developed in Calgary.

Dr. Prieur was born in Calgary, Alberta and attended medical school at the University of Alberta.  He then completed his Internal Medicine residency in London, Ontario and his training in Cardiology and fellowship in Echocardiography in Toronto.  Dr. Prieur is an attending staff cardiologist at the  Foothills Hospital and the Peter Lougheed Centre.  He also is the Co-director of the Adult Congenital Heart Program at the Peter Lougheed Centre.  He has been a member of Cardiology Consultants since 1986.

Dr. Stone was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He received his undergraduate degrees in Physical and Health Education, and Biology at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario and his Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology.  He graduated from Queens Medical School in 1984.  While in Calgary, Alberta he completed his Internal Medicine residency and a Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology.  This was followed by a Cardiology residency and a Fellowship in Nuclear Cardiology in Toronto, Ontario.  Dr. Stone is an attending cardiologist for the Calgary Regional Health Authority (CHR).   He is Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Calgary.  He is currently Chairman and Editor-in-chief of the National Guidelines on Cardiac Rehabilitation and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention. He joined Cardiology Consultants in 1992.
